"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." II Timothy 3:16 KJV

The Illinois Lutheran Conference

Doctrinal Position

The Illinois Lutheran Conference accepts all the canonical books of the Bible as the sole source of doctrine and practice in it's midst. We also recognize and accept the Ecumenical Creeds:

together with the classic Lutheran Symbols:

  • The Unaltered Augsburg Confession
  • The Apology of the same
  • The Smallcald Articles
  • Luther's Catechism, Small and Large
  • The Formula of Concord

and the

  • Brief Statement of the Missouri Synod (1932)

as normative for the Conference because (not insofar as) they are faithful expositions of God's Word distinctly setting forth the confessions of the Lutheran Church. According to this standard of confession all doctrinal controversies which may arise in the Conference shall be judged and decided.
